Post masters degree students will earn an Doctor of Education degree with a major in Organizational Leadership. The Ed.D. and Ph.D. are both doctorates that relate
to different approaches to doctoral studies rather than to the
study of “Education” in the case of the Ed.D. or
the study of “Philosophy” in the case of the Ph.D.
The Ed.D. was chosen, rather than the Ph.D., to promote a focus
on field-based leadership development, solution finding, best
practice in organizational leadership, and scholarly research.
The Ed.D. requires a strong theory to practice focus culminating
in a dissertation based upon rigorous quantitative and/or qualitative
research adding value in the field of study. The degree may
be earned in three years, however once students complete all
course work and qualifying exams they may take from one to three
years to complete and defend the doctoral dissertation.
